The Haxtun FBLA Members have been hard at work this year promoting Community Service. We started out the year by visiting the Nursing Home on Halloween to help the senior citizens decorate cookies.
Then during Christmas we put on our annual Christmas Dinner for the senior citizens. For Valentine’s Day our members made card holders and cards that we took down to the Nursing Home.
On March 10th the members are planning on taking Daffodils to anyone in the Haxtun Community who donated money to the American Cancer Society.
In addition to these holiday projects, some of our members have been working on a Community Service Project that is focused on teaching students about underage drinking and driving safety. Some of the activities that they have put on are bus safety workshops for the students in kindergarten through eighth grades, workshops on safe driving and underage drinking for the ninth through twelfth grades, and also for the ninth through twelfth grades they set up a driving course for the students to go through on golf carts while wearing drunk goggles. This taught them how unsafe it is for people to drink and drive. The last activity they did for the high school students was creating commercials to impact the students on possible outcomes of drinking and driving, and also driving recklessly.
These commercials and some of the workshops were also open for the public to come and see at an FBLA open house.
