DECA v. FBLA Apprentice Challenge to benefit the Taylor Werner Scholarship

Students from Stone Bridge High School’s Future Business Leaders of America Chapter (FBLA) and DECA (an association of marketing students) will host the first DECA v. FBLA Apprentice Challenge in the form of a food sale. The food sale will take place on Monday, March 31st at 7pm, at the 4th annual Stone Bridge Faculty vs. MWAA (Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority) basketball game. All proceeds will go to the Taylor Werner Scholarship Fund. Donations can be accepted for the scholarship fund and that there is a $1 donation for entrance to the game.

Each club team, consisting of 16 members, will be given the support of business mentors as well as a budget of $200 to spend at designated stores. The business mentors are part of the Business and Marketing Department Advisory Board and will assist the teams. All work on the project must be done outside the classroom.  The clubs may not accept donations from the public; however, the public is encouraged to attend the game on March 31 at Stone Bridge High School. Although both clubs are competing for bragging rights, the ultimate goal is to raise money for the Taylor Werner Scholarship.

Taylor Werner is a student at Stone Bridge High School who suffers from TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). This impairs his ability to move, speak, and interact with others. However, even with this condition, Taylor has shown great academic strength and motivation. With the help of DECA and FBLA, we have a shared goal to raise money to send him to a college of his choice.

The rival clubs, DECA and FBLA, have been competing at Stone Bridge over members, fundraisers, and recognition at competitions. Utilizing skills from business and marketing classes, as well as the guidance offered by these club organizations, we hope to provide a healthy competition in which we will put our business skills good use.

DECA and FBLA are asking the public to come out on March 31 at 7:00 PM to enjoy a great basketball game and help support the Taylor Werner Scholarship!
