Serving as a volunteer leader at the national level will provide you with the opportunity to collaborate with a team to accomplish key organizational goals and support the FBLA-PBL Board of Directors.

The Alumni & Professional Network Advisory Council assists the Board of Directors by making recommendations regarding the utilization and support of alumni and businesspersons, as well as providing non-binding strategic advice for association advancement. This will include recommendations for cultivating partnerships or sponsorships with businesses that result in tailored training to members with input and feedback from respective businesses and industries, on-site experiences for members within the industry or business they are pursuing, greater awareness of FBLA-PBL within the business community, sponsorships, scholarships, and other funding opportunities.

Time Commitment

Terms are for one year, starting August 1, 2022 and ending July 31, 2023. The committee meets via Zoom for 60 minutes each month.

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in at least 80% of meetings.
  • Host monthly virtual open house events for the Alumni & Professional Network.
  • Communicate with the committee chair and fellow committee members in a timely manner.

The Collegiate Council develops highly innovative proposals for the Board of Directors regarding the complete reimagination of the division. Deliverables will include:

  • A proposal for academically-aligned program tracks that align with businesses and industry.
  • Draft charge for advisory boards and plan for recruitment and retention of business and industry advisory boards that align to proposed new tracks.
  • New individual and chapter-based programs and conferences/events that align to higher education standards.
  • Pilot e-portfolio program to illustrate program outcomes.
  • Recommendations for competitive events for the 2024 Collegiate NLC to be delivered to the Competitive Events Committee.
  • Draft agenda and proposal for programming and experiences at the 2025 Collegiate NLC, to be delivered and built in conjunction with the Education Programs Committee.
  • Draft alternative membership structures and management models.
  • Work with National Center Leadership to align staffing needs for program support and expansion.
Time Commitment

Terms are for one year, starting August 1, 2022 and ending July 31, 2023. The committee meets via Zoom for 60 minutes each month.

The Competitive Events Committee (formerly NAP) reviews the competitive events guidelines, secures test writers, secures judges for prejudged events, develops new event guidelines, submits scenarios for the event guidelines and oversees competitive events at the National Leadership Conference (NLC).

Committee Composition

The committee will consist of 13 members, including five members from the high school division, 3 members from the middle school division, and 5 members from the collegiate division. Members will include both state and local chapter representatives. The Director of Awards & Recognition and Awards & Recognition Coordinator will serve as national staff liaisons.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in education or related field
  • Current involvement in FBLA operations
  • Active participation as a local Adviser or state committee member
  • Currently employed in education
  • At least three years of experience in the operation of competitive events at the district/region, state and/or national levels
Time Commitment

Terms are for three years, starting August 1, 2022 and ending July 31, 2025. The committee meets via Zoom for 60-90 minutes each month. Smaller working groups may be expected to meet more often.

Responsibilities

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force engages FBLA stakeholders to ensure that we are appropriately addressing diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of the organization, including governance, member experience, content and staffing. Deliverables will include:

  • Assessing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) within the FBLA community using NPHR model.
  • Developing DEI-related data collection and analysis for student members and chapter Advisers in collaboration with state key contacts.
  • Recommending revision of foundational documents—Values, Code of Ethics, Creed, and Pledge.
  • Establishing a draft statement about FBLA DEI anchored in mission, vision, core values. The statement should demonstrate a commitment to and a definition of the culture of embracing and celebrating DEI that FBLA seeks to develop.
  • Engaging leaders in a DEI session during the State Leadership Summit.
  • Preparing recommendations to foster diversity, equity and inclusion in the FBLA National Officer program in all divisions.
  • Implementing staff support to establish a culture of DEI through engagement activities, learning and a review of human resource policies and procedures that foster a diverse staff, including policies and procedures that ensure an inclusive and equitable work environment.
  • The Governance Committee, in consultation with the DEI Task Force, external consultant, and legal counsel, will update the volunteer management recruitment process and procedures to address DEI including the board of directors and committees.
  • The Education Programs Committee, working with the DEI Task Force and the national officers, will develop program content and materials addressing DEI as part of the FBLA membership experience.

The Education Programs Committee develops and implements programs, policies and procedures that support student members of FBLA. Educational programs including in-person and online conferences, workshops, asynchronous offerings, and division specific programs such as the FBLA Business Achievement Awards, Phi Beta Lambda Excellence Award, and Middle Level LEAD. The committee ensures that FBLA programs are aligned with national business education standards. The committee works in collaboration with FBLA’s Competitive Events Committee as needed to ensure consistency and that strategic goals are met.

Time Commitment

Terms are for three years, starting August 1, 2022 and ending July 31, 2025. The committee meets via Zoom for 60-90 minutes each month.

The Elections Committee establishes and provides oversight on policies and procedures that support the annual election of national officers. In addition, committee members support National Center staff in conducting the elections including reviewing applications, establishing guidelines for campaign materials and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures by candidates, local chapters and state affiliates.

The Finance Committee is responsible for reviewing the annual budget prepared by the President/CEO and presenting the reviewed budget to the Board of Directors. The committee reviews all financial matters and commitments prior to presentation to the Board, such as significant contracts and agreements; compliance with short- and long-term goals in the adopted strategic plan; FBLA investment policy and recommendations; annual investment performance; annual audit results, sharing significant findings with the Board; and the organization’s draft 990 form before submission to the Internal Revenue Service.

The Governance Committee leads the process of recruiting and nominating candidates for election to the National Board of Directors each year. In addition, the Governance Committee annually reviews the policies and bylaws for approval by the Board.

Committee Composition

The committee will consist of five members, including the previous Chair of the Board of Directors,  the current Board Secretary, one former chair of the Board, one voting Board member who is retiring at the end of the current term and one at-large voting member who is not a current Director.

Time Commitment

Terms are for one year, starting August 1, 2022 and ending July 31, 2023. The committee meets via Zoom for 60 minutes each month.

The Membership Committee’s prepares recommendations to address membership recruitment and retention, as well as support for Advisers in FBLA high school and middle school divisions. Deliverables will include:

  • 2023 Membership Kit to be mailed to all active chapters in Fall 2023
  • Progress on the 2022-23 FBLA New Adviser Mentoring Pilot 
  • Workflow automations for new membership database, specifically for new chapters 
  • Membership recruitment collateral for students, parents, business and community stakeholders 
  • Strategies for working with underserved and special populations
  • Retention strategy coordinated with state affiliates 
  • High School to collegiate membership transition campaign  
  • Middle school to high school membership transition campaign

The Middle School Advisory Council prepares recommendations that support the development and expansion of the FBLA middle school division. Deliverables include:

  • Three-year development plan for FBLA middle school division 
  • Programs and curricular experience that engages both students and parents/guardians 
  • Opportunities for leadership at the national level 
  • Expansion of competitive events to meet middle school curriculum needs, particularly in business and computer science 
  • FBLA middle school programming at the annual National Leadership Conference 
  • Virtual engagement opportunities with national officers

The Scholarship & Financial Aid Committee advises on policies and procedures for supporting student members and chapters with scholarship programs and financial aid. The committee also reviews applications for aid using a criteria/rubric for each aid/scholarship program to identify recipients. FBLA financial aid programs include the National Leadership Conference Scholarship Program and the Dressed to Impress Program (formerly known as the National Uniform Challenge), the Distinguished Business Leader Scholarship and other offerings from our sponsors and partners. In addition to direct student funding, the committee supports special aid programs, such as disaster relief.

Time Commitment

Terms are for one year, starting August 1, 2022 and ending July 31, 2023. The committee meets via Zoom for 60 minutes each month. Small working groups may be expected to meet more often.
