A Message About the 2020 National Leadership Conference & COVID-19
Updates: March 20, 2020
FBLA-PBL’s mission is to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. This mission is truer than ever given recent events. That is why we continue to monitor the news day-to-day to make informed and thoughtful decisions. At the core of our mission is teaching aspiring business leaders to be “community-minded.” We are grateful to have a community of state advisers, trusted board members, and enthusiastic students working together to ensure an accessible, appropriate, and healthy NLC experience for all.
We are working together as a team—with our board of directors and state advisers—to identify alternatives should there be a need to reformat the conference into an online experience. We commit to communicate early, often, and honestly, so that all our members can plan accordingly.
International Delegates: It is at this time of year that our international delegates typically receive invitations to the FBLA-PBL National Leadership Conference (NLC). Given the impact of COVID-19 and the resulting global health crisis, FBLA-PBL is evaluating if the traditional in-person NLC scheduled to be held in Salt Lake City will take place. Therefore, we will not be providing any invitation letters at this time. FBLA-PBL will communicate with all chapter advisers as decisions are made concerning the 2020 NLC.
Update (March 12, 2020):
First and foremost, the leadership of FBLA-PBL is dedicated to the safety of our student members and the volunteer advisers who support them. In addition, as an organization of citizens across the United States, we send our thoughts and prayers to those who are impacted by COVID-19.
FBLA-PBL is continuing to support our states as they make critical decisions relating to their respective conferences. We are all paying close attention to local guidance as it relates to school and event closures. If you have a question regarding a state conference, you should contact your respective state adviser. We understand that each family has different health and safety concerns. Parents, if you determine that your child will not be participating, please alert your local chapter adviser. Student participation in conferences is always optional and at the discretion of the parent or guardian.
In light of these extraordinary circumstances, FBLA-PBL leadership, in collaboration with our state organizations, is developing alternative plans to best support our student members in their involvement with conferences and competitive events.
Original Statement From FBLA-PBL Regarding COVID-19
Are you or your chapter planning on or thinking about attending the 2020 National Leadership Conference (NLC) June 24-27 (PBL) and June 29-July 2 (FBLA) in Salt Lake City? We want you to know that the National Center is following the reports of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and doing its part to respond to this emerging public health issue.
Proactively, and at the very minimum, FBLA-PBL will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) and comply with all regulations concerning travel and large events. States and chapters should also check with their own state’s department of public health and department of education for recommendations and policies.
We will continue to monitor reports and post any updates directly to this page and our NLC website.
In the meantime, we remind you that there are everyday preventative actions to help stop the spread of germs. Standard recommendations, as prescribed by WHO, include regular hand washing and covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing. If you must cough, please do so in your elbow. If you have flu-like symptoms, please stay home from work or school.
The health and well-being of our members, advisers, and guests are always a top priority. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure a safe and healthy environment at our conference. FBLA-PBL is diligently working to provide our members and advisers with a safe and outstanding NLC experience.
